DUALITIES
DUALITIES
March 1 - April 8, 2018
Closing Reception: Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 pm
On view during The Umbrella’s Open Studios: April 7 and 8, 2017 from 1:00-5:00 pm
Artists are often known for a single, signature style: Cassatt’s portraits, Degas’ ballerinas, Nevelson’s assemblages, Rivera’s murals. But in order to push themselves and their crafts, most artists have worked in multiple media. In their 70’s, Georgia O’Keffe picked up pottery and Henri Matisse started paper cut-outs. Le Corbusier, Michelangelo, William Blake, and countless others worked in any media they could get their hands on throughout their careers.
The Umbrella’s resident artists are no different. While many have become known as printmakers, painters, and potters, all of them have tried their hand at another art form along the way. In this exhibit, each of The Umbrella’s resident artists will be displaying work in two different media. Visit the gallery to see what connects, or doesn’t connect, each artist’s duality or stop by Open Studios to see the full range of their work.
