Girl Scout and Boy Scout Badges

Looking for your troop to earn a badge in the arts? The Umbrella is the perfect place for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of all ages to earn a badge in wherever their creative interests lie. We can accommodate badges in the following areas:

  • Drawing/Illustration
  • Painting
  • Pottery
  • Digital Arts (digital photography, filmmaking, animation, etc.)
  • Woodworking
  • Textile Arts
  • Mixed Media/Collage
  • Makers and Design

Our instructors offer engaging, fun, and creative sessions to ensure your troop will meet the criteria to earn their badges. We can accommodate studio tours, information and interview sessions with our talented instructors who are practicing artists in their respective fields. Badges can be earned as a group or as an individual.

The Cost:

2D/Craft Arts /Mixed Media Badges:

We can work with the wants and needs of your badge requirements. Let us know what you want to explore and our expert artists/instructors can help with the process.

With a minimum of 15 participants per troop = $10 per person

14 or fewer participants = $15 per person.

 

3D/Ceramics/Pottery Badges:

For hand building, wheel-throwing and/or glazing a piece of pottery can be accommodated. Wheel-throwing is limited to 8 kids at a time. Large groups can be split into two and scheduled back to back sessions.

There is option to do a fired clay project or a fired clay project WITH glaze.  Sessions for fired clay only do not include time to glaze sculptures. Without glaze, sculptures CANNOT be used as functional tableware.

In the fired clay with glaze option you can create AND glaze a work of ceramic art. With this option, you will make a sculpture that will be fired unglazed. (not food or liquid safe). Then, you will glaze a premade piece of pottery that will also be fired. Choose from our many glaze colors and paint your design on your piece. This glazed piece will be food safe. Premade pieces of terracotta are purchased to glaze for $5 each.

Cost will be $10/person with a minimum of 15 participants. $15 per person with fewer than 15 participants.

Plus $5 each for a premade piece of terracotta pottery for each person to glaze.

*Clay work will be fired three-four days after the event, and will be ready for pick up by a troop leader on the following Friday. Troop leaders are responsible for project distribution to troop families. The cost of the pottery/ceramics badge includes the firing fee.

Digital Arts Badges:

Cost is $10 per participant with a minimum of 15 people. $15 per person with fewer than 15 participants. Large groups can be split into two groups and scheduled back to back sessions.

Woodworking Badges:

Cost is $10 per participant with a minimum of 15 people. $15 per person with fewer than 15 participants. Woodworking is limited to 10 kids at a time. Large groups can be split into two groups and scheduled back to back sessions.

Maker and Design Badges:

Cost is $10 per participant with a minimum of 15 people. $15 per person with fewer than 15 participants. Maker Space is limited to 10 kids at a time. Large groups can be split into two groups and scheduled back to back sessions.

 

Deposit:

A $25 nonrefundable deposit is required to hold your reservation once an instructor for your badge session is booked. The remaining balance is due the day of the session.
