Public Art
“ I am not a performer but occasionally I deliberately work in a public context. Some sculptures need the movement of people around them to work.” -- Andy Goldsworthy
Public Art: Connecting Community to Environmental Issues though Art
Visiting/juried artists and our teen public sculpture program create art in public spaces to encourage community reflection and interaction.
Our projects include:
Spring and Fall Drop-Off /Swap Off Days Recycle Sculpture
Join local artist Bill Turville at the Department of Public Works in creating art from scrap materials.
Musketakids Teen Public Sculpture Program
Musketakids work together to identify environmental issues of interest and concern, then design a semester- or year-long project to publicly address the issue and raise public awareness. Some of their projects include: Endangered Species Mural, bicycle sculptures, plastic bag and trash sculptures, painting retail windows to encourage "unplugging" from electronic devices.
The Musketakids’ first meeting will be held on September 13, when we will begin to brainstorm this year’s projects. If you are in grades 7-12 and interested in joining us, we would love to meet you! Artistic talent not required, just bring your passions, creativity, and collaborative spirit! Musketakids meet Tuesdays, from 3-4:30 PM.
Public Art Exhibitions
"Art Ramble 2016": In partnership with the Concord Division of Natural Resources, this collaborative project celebrates all the arts -- sculpture, poetry, dance, and dramatic readings encourage the intersection of art, nature, and community in a historic natural setting.
"Art & Agriculture: Four Seasons on Concord Farms": The culmination of a year-long collaborative project between the Concord Agriculture Committee and Musketaquid. Eleven juried artists were matched with 13 farms to follow the seasonal cycles of farm life and work. Each artist will submit at least one piece for each season. Exhibit opens Thursday October 6.
