Miranda Aisling Hynes

Miranda came to The Umbrella in 2013 after teaching at the Museum of Fine Arts for two years in the Community Art Initiative, the hospital outreach program, and the after school program.

Originally a painting and drawing teacher in The Umbrella's summer camp, she quickly joined the office team where she organizes studio art events, gallery exhibitions, and the day-to-day operations of the building. Miranda is the author of Don't Make Art, Just Make Something, a book about the importance of getting started, which she wrote in early 2013 as her thesis for her M.ed. in Community Art from Lesley University.  

As The Umbrella's Director of Operations and Visual Arts, Miranda is responsible for the strategic management, administration, and implementation of daily business operations and visual arts programming at The Umbrella. She enjoys spending her days working in close collaboration with The Umbrella's fantastic resident artists.

In addition to her M.ed in Community Art, Miranda holds a B.A. in Painting and Pottery from Mary Baldwin College where she also studied piano performance, art history, and psychology. In her studio, Miranda is working on a series of knitted canvasses where she oil paints directly onto hand-knitted fabric. In addition to her visual art, Miranda is a singer-songwriter and the founder of Miranda's Hearth, an organization dedicated to building community through creativity. 

From June 2015-June 2016, Miranda and her community built a tiny house as public art project on The Umbrella's front lawn in BIG Art; Tiny House. The project culminated in The Umbrella's first summer festival, the 2nd BIG Tiny House Festival, which drew nearly 3,000 people to Concord!
