The Umbrella is excited to open submissions for proposals from Directors for projects which are:

Bold. We are committed to producing work that pushes boundaries and presents challenges; encourages the audience to think and feel.

Daring. Our programs tell stories and spark conversations. We believe that the stage provides a place for new ideas and voices to be heard.

Innovative. Whether you come to see a brand new play or a beloved, time-honored musical, we guarantee that you have never seen a production quite like ours.

We are seeking 2 mainstage and 2 black box style productions, both of which can be either plays or musicals, to take place in the following order:

                September/October, 2016 – Mainstage

                November, 2016 - Black Box

                March, 2017 – Black Box

                April/May, 2017 – Mainstage

Directors interested in submitting a proposal should forward a resume and a statement addressing the following:

Name of the play to be proposed
Whether you are proposing the play to be produced as Mainstage or Black Box and for which time slot you are proposing.

Mainstage shows are produced on a proscenium stage in our auditorium which seats 350. Past Mainstage shows include La Cage aux Folles, Ragtime, and Angels in America Parts 1 and 2.
Black Box shows invite the audience on stage with the actors in a three quarter thrust setting and seat up to 100, depending on seating. Past Black Box shows include Red, Rabbit Hole, and True West.

How the play fits the Umbrella’s point of view.
Why you are interested in directing this play and why now is the right time for this play to be produced.
Why you are interested in seeing this play produced at The Umbrella.

Proposals are due no later than December 31st, 2015.

For musicals, proposals from complete Director/Music Director/Choreographer teams are welcomed but not required.

A committee review process will begin in early January with interviews to take place mid-late January. Final decisions will be made and announced in early February. The Umbrella’s 2016-2017 season will be a combination of selected proposals and curated projects, at the discretion of the committee.

To submit a proposal or for further inquiry, please contact Brian Boruta, Director of Performing Arts. Brian@theumbrellaarts.org
